Explanation of Pinion

Pinion is a simple 3D arcade game in development. It only runs on the Windows (any) platform. It uses OpenGL graphics rendering and OpenAL sound rendering and is otherwise native Win32 code.

The goal in the game is to survive from wave to wave (or level to level as the game becomes further implemented) by using your spaceship to destroy the enemy spaceships that are trying to kill you. You have a pair of guns which you can shoot simultaneously at the enemies on the battlefield.

The enemies do not fire anything at you currently. They use their hull to try to ram your ship and damage you. They can mainly defeat you by swarming your ship and immobilizing you.

Game elements

Player Ship: This is the ship you are in control of. It has dual turrets which fire straight in front of you. The player ship can accelerate, decelerate, turn, strafe, and fire.
Enemy Ships: These are enemy ships. They are very simple minded enemies which mainly try to ram your ship if you are within range and if they get close enough to you they try to swarm your ship to prevent you from destroying them and to damage you. Enemy ships take around 9 shots to destroy typically.
Player Shield Meter: This is the meter for the current energy level of your shields. Your shield energy is important in Pinion because it powers the radar display and the main view of the battlefield. As your shields degrade past around 60% the radar will start to accumulate static on its screen. As your shields degrade past 40% operation the main battlefield view will accumulate static. When the shields go to 0% the player ship is destroyed and the game is over.
Radar: This is your radar display. It shows from your perspective where the enemy ships are (where up is in front of your and right is to your right). This is useful in navigating around enemies and for other purposes. It loses usability when the shields are decently damaged.
Score: This is a counter for your current score. Points are scored by destroying enemy ships and passing waves. Currently 150 points are awarded for destroying an enemy ship.
